AMRPEN Condemns the attempt to sign a new agreement
that includes Western Sahara
In violation of international law and the recent European Court ruling, European Union fishing ministers gave the green light to the European Commission to enter into negotiations with Morocco on the renewal of the fishing agreement ending in July, including Western Sahara, despite all the decisions of the European Court of Justice As well as its decision on agricultural exchange on 21 December 2016, which clearly states that any agreement with Morocco should not include the Western Sahara region, the European Commission and the Council of Europe insisted on pursuing a policy of overcoming the law,
Unfortunately, in recent weeks we have noticed moves by the European Commission through meetings in Rabat, Morocco, with people we do not know on what basis they were consulted, although the nature of the questions is answered by specialists in this file. In civil society in Western Sahara, we confirm that the European Commission has not consulted with a group of civil society in Western Sahara interested in the natural resource file
And we AMRPEN
– Declare our conviction to bypass the European Court’s judgment by the European institutions
We also condemn the actions of the European Commission and affirm that all the meetings held in Rabat, Morocco, are a game aimed at overcoming the court’s ruling.
– We in the Assembly as representatives of civil society in Western Sahara are going to the European peoples to work with us in condemning the violation of international and European law by the European Commission
As an association concerned with the natural resource file, we consider that any agreement that does not respect international and European law in Western Sahara is theft and financing for the occupation of the people of Western Sahara.
